Deputy Head of Rosstat Sergey Egorenko chaired a meeting on the preparation of a joint statistical publication with the participation of BRICS experts on 16–17 April.
Experts attending the meeting discussed the work plan for 2024 and the requirements for the data BRICS members are to submit to Rosstat for the next issue of the publication.
“The joint efforts of national statistical specialists resulted in the first issue of BRICS statistical publication in 2010. The publication is now annual and has grown beyond statisticians to be used by researchers, business representatives, and government officials. This year’s publication will include the countries that joined BRICS in 2024,” Sergey Egorenko said in his welcome speech.
The BRICS Joint Statistical Publication has come out every year since 2010. It contains data on changes to the most important economic and social indicators, economic activity, the structure of GDP and trends, price indexes, and living standards. It also provides information on the production of the most important types of industrial and agricultural products, charts the development of energy, transport, communications, finance, and foreign economic relations, and provides environmental data.
One topic of discussion was devoted to international trends in the distribution of statistical data. Rosstat specialists told their colleagues about their experience with Business Intelligence and data visualization and introduced an initiative to launch an online platform where data could be accessed in a user-friendly format.
The publication and statistical platform have been planned to coincide with the BRICS Summit scheduled for 22–24 October 2024 in Kazan.
