The VI meeting of Heads of the BRICS IP Offices (BRICS HIPO) took place on June 21-22, 2016 in Moscow. Under the chairmanship of GrigoryIvliev, Head of Rospatent, the participants of the meeting approved the Mandates of all BRICS IP Offices under the BRICS IP Offices' Cooperation Roadmap and outlined concrete projects and events in order to implement the said Mandates.

Representatives of the BRICS IP Offices expressed their gratitude to Rospatent for he training program organized by the Russian Office for experts from the BRICS IP Offices (29 February - 4 March, 2016). Many of the BRICS Offices also supported Rospatent's proposal to organize similar trainings each year on rotational basis. It was noted that this may be beneficial for exchange of BRICS IP Offices’ experience.

CNIPA China presented its revised Mandates containing, in particular, an updated schedule for data exchange between the BRICS IP Offices that was supported by all Offices. In addition to that, HIPO decided to consider a possibility to create a common website devoted to the BRICS IP cooperation.

INPI Brazil's proposal to focus efforts in the area of development of patent processes on the patent classification was adopted by HIPO. In order to identify the topical issues related to this matter INPI announced the intention to conduct a questionnaire on patent classification.

CIPC South Africa presented a wide range of events and projects aimed at facilitating development of IP strategies for SMMEs. Further implementation of these projects will be subjects to later discussion among HIPO.

In the framework of the cooperation stream devoted to collaboration at international forums under the leadership of CGPDTM India it was decided that the BRICS IP Offices will concentrate on the forums of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). In particular, in accordance with the Rospatent's proposal it was decided to promote inclusion of an article on technical support into the Draft Design Law Treaty discussed at WIPO.

After the signature of the Final Summary Report on the meeting by HIPO the Head of Rospatent, GrigiryIvliev proceeded with officially transfer the Chairmanship to Om Prakash GUPTA, Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks of India.
