1st IP BRICS Coordination Group

The first meeting of the BRICS IP Coordination Group took place on June 20, 2016 in Moscow at the sidelines of the VI meeting of Heads of BRICS IP Offices (BRICS HIPO).

At the said meeting the experts from the BRICS IP Offices summarized the results of the joint activities in 2015-2016 and finalized the Mandates of each IP Office aimed at implementing the respective cooperation streams under the BRICS IP Offices' Cooperation Roadmap:

    Training of Intellectual Property Office Staff and Examiner Exchange (Leading Office: Rospatent);

    Promotion of public awareness on IP in BRICS countries (Leading Office: CNIPA)

    Information services on IP (Leading Office: CNIPA);

    IP/Patent processes and procedures (Leading Office: INPI);

    IP strategy for SMMEs (Leading Office: CIPC);

Collaboration in International Forums as required and subject to consensus (Leading Office: CGPDTM).

In addition to the above, proposals were developed concerning joint projects and events under each of the above cooperation streams.

Based on the productive results of the meeting BRICS HIPO took the decision to provide the BRICS IP Coordination Group with an official status of as a regular institutional body of the BRICS IP Offices' cooperation charged with the duties related to coordination of running cooperation and organization of BRICS HIPO meetings.
