1st Training for BRICS Patent Examiners
February 29 – March 4, 2016, Moscow, Russian

Training for BRICS patent examiners took place on February 29 – March 4, 2016 in Moscow at the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent) and the Federal Institute of Industrial Property.

The said event was organized in the framework of the first examiners' exchange programme involving representatives of all BRICS countries in the course of implementation of the BRICS IP Offices' Cooperation Roadmap adopted on May 16, 2013 at Magaliesburg (South Africa).

Examiners in various technical fields of priority to the BRICS countries took part in the training program, including electric engineering, computing, chemistry, biotechnology, etc. In the course of the training the participants took the opportunity to share their experience in the field of patent examination, as well as to conduct practical analysis of a number of applications in the chosen technical fields with the aid of specialists from FIPS.

At the end of the training – on March 4, 2016 – a round table discussion took place, during which the participants talked about problematic aspects of patent procedures, particular features of each Office's practices and made final evaluations on the training. All parties agreed that the first experience in conducting joint trainings was successful and expressed their hope for organization of further similar joint events.
